The year 2007 was defined by the launch of several major drug launches that created new market opportunities and spurred growth in pharmaceutics. One of these launches is Viagra. This paper focuses on the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of this new drug, examining its speed, dose, dosage volume, efficacy, route of administration, tolerability and safety profile. Pharmaceuticals are essentially drugs designed to treat central nervous system disorders ranging from pain to hallucinations while providing treatments for other conditions such as cancer or cardiovascular disease. Most pharmaceuticals are synthesized chemically in labs or they are grown on living cells which then produce chemical components that can be used for different treatments. The materials are then purified and often tested before they are released. Pharmaceuticals are classified as either active ingredients (drugs) or inactive ingredients (medicinal plants or chemicals). A pharmaceutical may be used to treat any sort of ailment, but some drugs are designed primarily to treat central nervous system disorders like pain, anxiety, depression, epilepsy and hyperactivity. While some drugs help control pain at the same time they also cure an ailment like hypertension or cancer; some drugs can also reduce stress at the same time that it cures an ailment like dementia or psychosis; while others can effectively cure an ailment such as low blood pressure or high cholesterol. Pharmaceuticals are either synthesized chemically or they are produced using the help of living cells that then produce chemical components. A large number of medicines have been derived from compounds made from plants. In fact, the most widely used drugs in the world, penicillin and aspirin, as well as quinine used to treat malaria, are all derived from plant sources. In addition to these naturally occurring medications, many other pharmaceuticals including hormones and vaccines have been produced using live cultures of animal cells. Synthetic drugs have been defined as those which do not occur in nature either by a living organism or a natural process. These drugs can be made by chemical synthesis or biological fermentation. The latter involves the biological reproduction of the molecules generated by chemical synthesis. With this process, some chemical compounds are generated in a certain organism, which are then mutated to give better results. These new chemicals are then extracted from plant or animal tissues or given together with synthetic polymers. Some medicinal plants, for exampleannual hybrids and traditional medicines such as Garlic were used for centuries to treat ailment but these plants were not used due to their lack of efficacy and safety profile. With the introduction of the modern practice of drug manufacturing, pharmaceuticals have become more specific and safer than ever before. Viagra represents only one type of pharmaceutical that we see in use today. It is one of the most widely used, yet controversial products in modern times. It is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Other drugs like it exist in the market for use by both men and women. One of these drugs is Propecia, or finasteride 1 mg, which is also used to cure male pattern hair loss. The history of this drug can be traced back to 1985, when researchers at Lilly Research Laboratories were working on compounds that inhibit the enzyme known as 5-hydroxytryptamine-6. Two different groups had been working on this drug while trying to synthesize a compound named D-38645 which was a potential treatment for angina pectoris.
